*If the Hazmat Endorsement is on your CDL license, there will be an additional $91.00 background check fee in addition to the CDL License fee.


For those U.S. Citizens and Immigrants with Permanent Legal Presence, the valid length of a Driver License or ID Card is as follows:

  • Class E Driver Licenses will be valid for 8 years
  • Class A, B, or C (CDL) Driver Licenses will be valid for 8 years
  • Licenses with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement will only be valid for 4 years
  • All Licenses for Customers 80 years of age and older will only be valid for 6 years
  • ID Cards for Children ages 5 to 14 years of age will be valid for 4 years
  • ID Cards for Customers ages 15 years of age and older will be valid for 8 years
  • Non-immigrant Driver License or ID Cards are valid for 1 year or until the expiration of their immigration documents, whichever comes first.

Effective February 15, 2021
You will be required to retake the Class E Knowledge Exam If:

  • You downgraded from a Class E license to an ID card and the driver license on record has been expired for one year or more.
  • Your Florida Class E license has expired, and you did not apply to renew the Florida driver license within the one-year delinquent renewal period.
  • You are applying for an original Florida Class E license and your out-of-state driver license has been expired for one year or more.
  • You completed the Class E knowledge exam and did not obtain your Class E driver license within one year of the exam pass date.


1. Proof of Identity/Legal Presence (One of the following):

  • U.S. Passport (Valid or Expired, but not cancelled)
  • Certified Birth Certificate (Hospital birth certificates cannot be accepted)
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  • Certificate of Naturalization
  • Certificate of Citizenship
  • Valid, Unexpired Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
  • Valid Employment Authorization Card issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security (Form I688B or I-766)
  • Proof of nonimmigrant classification provided by United States Department of Homeland Security (Form I-94, not expired, with required supporting attachment(s). If in doubt regarding required documents, please bring all of your US BCIS documentation with you.)

2. Name Change Document(s)- (If name differs from birth name):

  • Marriage License (For ALL marriages, unless the last marriage license shows your maiden name as it appears on your birth certificate)
  • Court Order
  • Spouse’s Death Certificate (Shows maiden name)

3. Proof of Social Security Number (One of the following with the complete SS Number, photocopies are not accepted):

  • Social Security Card
  • Medicare Card (Your SS Number)
  • W-2 Form (Not handwritten)
  • Pay Check/Stub
  • SSA-1099
  • Any 1099 (Not handwritten)

4. Proof of Residential Address (Two of the following):

  • Deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, mortgage payment booklet or residential rental/lease agreement
  • Florida Voter Registration Card
  • Florida Vehicle Registration or Title
  • Florida Boat Registration or Title (if living on a boat /houseboat)
  • A statement from a parent, step-parent, legal guardian or other person with whom the applicant resides, combined with two proofs of their residential address.
  • A utility hook up or work order
  • Automobile Payment Booklet
  • Selective Service Card
  • Medical or health card with address listed
  • Current homeowner’s insurance policy or bill
  • Current automobile insurance policy or bill
  • Educational institution transcript forms for the current school year
  • Unexpired professional license issued by a government agency in the U.S.
  • W-2 form or 1099 form
  • Certification of Address Form combined with a letter from a homeless shelter, transitional service provider, or a half-way house
  • Utility bills
  • Mail from financial institutions; including checking, savings, or investment account statement
  • Mail from Federal, State, County or City government agencies (including city and county agencies)
  • Transients – Sexual Offender/Predator/Career Offender: FDLE Registration form completed by local sheriff’s department

It has been brought to our attention there is a website that Florida Citizens are accessing through Google to renew their driver license. If you Google Florida Driver License Renewal, the top two websites are not State of Florida Websites. These two websites charge a $14.00 fee.
